Streamlining Cloud Migrations and Enhancing Infrastructure Security: January 2025 Release
February 4, 2025 •Cesar Rodriguez
As part of our ongoing mission to simplify infrastructure management, StackGen is thrilled to unveil a series of new features and improvements in our first 2025 release. Designed with both efficiency and security in mind, these updates help reduce the complexity of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and cloud migrations. Let’s dive into the key updates you can expect.
Seamless Azure to Civo Cloud Migration
One of the most exciting new capabilities is our support for migrating from Azure to Civo Cloud. This update provides a comprehensive framework for moving workloads with minimal manual intervention, making it easier for teams to switch clouds without compromising on functionality or security.
Key Features:
- Resource Attribute Mapping: We’ve established mappings for resource attributes between Azure and Civo, ensuring smooth compatibility.
- Enhanced Interoperability: StackGen now supports a broad range of Azure resources, empowering you to make the most of both Azure and Civo Cloud environments.
This new functionality sets the stage for a more flexible, multi-cloud approach, enabling your team to leverage the best of both worlds.
Security and Governance Checks for Imported tfstate
Files
StackGen now offers built-in security and governance checks for imported tfstate
files, helping you identify potential vulnerabilities and misconfigurations in your infrastructure. This proactive approach ensures that your cloud environment adheres to industry security standards, reducing risks and streamlining compliance.
How It Works:
- Automated Risk Detection: As soon as you import your
tfstate
file, StackGen analyzes your environment for issues like exposed secrets, misconfigurations, and security risks. - Risk Categorization: We classify risks into three levels: high, medium, and low, allowing you to prioritize fixes accordingly.
Key Benefits:
- Instant Security Insights: Quickly spot misconfigurations and security gaps in your cloud environment.
- RBAC Control: Only the Topology owner can view the analysis results, thereby ensuring secure access.
- Evolving Security Standards: We’re continuously adding more checks and filters to enhance security assessments.
By addressing issues early, StackGen helps save time and ensures your infrastructure remains secure.
We've also introduced several user interface upgrades to improve the user experience, particularly with the new Import Logs feature. Now, you can easily view the security and governance checks for your imported tfstate
files directly within the Topology canvas. These visual enhancements provide quicker access to critical security insights and remediation steps, further streamlining your workflow.
Inferring Resource Connections for Imported tfstate Files
Another significant enhancement is the automatic inference of resource connections for tfstate imports. Instead of manually mapping connections between your resources, StackGen now automatically identifies and links related resources, simplifying the visualization and management of your infrastructure.
Key Benefits:
- Automatic Resource Connections: Automatically link resources and visualize their dependencies without manual effort.
- Simplified Infrastructure Management: Easily manage complex cloud environments with automatically mapped relationships.
- Seamless Integration: Import tfstate files from both new and existing deployments, ensuring accurate and immediate connection mapping.
This feature removes a major pain point in cloud resource management, making your infrastructure easier to visualize and control.
Enhanced Resource Mapping During Cloud Migration
To offer even more control over your cloud migration, we've introduced post-migration resource mapping. After completing a migration, you can now swap out resources for better fits based on your new cloud environment.
How It Works:
- Post-Migration Override: After migration, you can choose from available alternatives to better align your infrastructure with your needs.
- Flexible Mapping: You can map resources directly from the Topology canvas or through the "Map Resources" button.
This flexibility ensures that your cloud environment is optimized for your specific requirements.
